It is possible to setup a service so that an authorised user can move a referral to a different service provider.
This can be useful if a service provider receives inappropriate referrals and they are willing and able to on-refer the patient to a different service provider (perhaps within the same organisation).
This is also useful if you want to setup a "triage" service when all incoming referrals are triaged/reviewed and then moved to the most appropriate service provider.
Before this can happen, Procon will first need to configure your locality so that this can happen. There are some types of referrals that are not supported, but Procon will advise on this.
Step 1 - Create a new referral status
- "Administer Statuses".
- "Add New Status".
- Enter a description of "Transferred to different service" (or whatever description works best for you).
- Enter a sensible "display order" (as it will never be shown to the user directly, it really doesn't matter what value you put in here, but it is a required field).
- Do NOT tick any of the options that appear under "Service types where this status is to be available to the user" as you do NOT want this status to be manually selected by the user.
Optional:
- You might like to specify values for "Days after which action flag appears" and "Action Flag Message". For example, you can specify that if the referral is still in this status 15 days after being assigned, you want to flag the referral with the message "Referral not accepted after 15 days" to highlight referrals that have been moved to a different provider but not actioned further.
Step 2 - Update the services
Do this for each and every service where you want authorised users to be able to move the referrals to a different service provider.
- "Adminster Services".
- Locate the service and click on the magnifying glass to allow the details of the service to be edited.
- Look for the option "Status for Referrals Moved to New Service" and set it to the new status you created in step 1.
- "OK" to save your changes.
Step 3 - Authorise the User
Do this for each and every user that is authorised to move referrals.
- "Administer Users".
- Find the user that you want to authorise and click on the magnifying glass to allow that user's detailed to be edited.
- Under "Roles" tick the box that says "Edit/Move Referral".
- "OK" to save your changes.
You're Done!
The users you have authorised in step 3 will now see a button "Edit/Move Referral" when they are viewing a referral for the services that you edited in step 2.
When they edit the referral, they can change the demographic details of the patient being referred AND they can select a different service. This will be shown in the history of the referral.
(It is not currently possible to restrict the services that the referral can be moved to - all valid services can be selected).
